The Reckoner is the award-winning student newspaper of Marc Garneau Collegiate Institute. During the school year, The Reckoner publishes regularly on its website. Additionally, The Reckoner produces a monthly printed newspaper, which is distributed to the school community.

The organization is comprised entirely of dedicated student volunteers: the best writers, artists, photographers, designers, and developers of the school. In 2014, the organization was named Ontario’s Best High School Electronic Newspaper and Ontario’s Best High School Volunteer Newspaper by the Toronto Star.

Cindy Zeng

Deputy Editor In Chief, Life Manager

Cindy Zeng is the Deputy Editor-in-Chief and Life Manager at The Reckoner. Quick! Snapshots of her personality in less than 100 words: her favourite colour is orange; she has a penchant for punnery; fashion is a concept she does not understand; she enjoys dark humour; she does not enjoy sleep deprivation; she’s a cuber, a food fanatic, and a book lover. She’s often found laughing really hard at her own jokes. (If you ask her nicely, she’ll tell you one.)

David Hao

Editor in Chief

David Hao is the Editor-in-Chief at The Reckoner. He enjoys the contrary and can often be seen splattering the walls of the Internet with his outrageous opinion pieces. Though he has been described as eccentric, he maintains that this is a compliment. In his free time, David enjoys Muay Thai and watching movies described as "before his generation."

David Lu

Director of Web Development

David Lu is the Director of Web Development at The Reckoner. Although his first love is technology, he enjoys country music, pickup trucks, and the Second Amendment. He appears to be a typical Chinese Canadian, but he is a country boy at heart. If he manages to get away from his computer, he tends to pick up a great science fiction novel to pass the time. In ten years, you can find him in either Silicon Valley, dating a California Girl, or in Georgia, working on the next Microsoft. He is currently saving up for his truck by teaching programming and web design on the weekends. If any girls want to hit him up, they can find him on Facebook or Tinder.

Deifilia To

News Manager

Deifilia To is the News Manager for The Reckoner. Her life can be described rather simply: school, clubs, eat, and repeat. (Please note: Sleep is omitted for a reason.) Though she lives a hectic lifestyle, she enjoys doing monotonously repetitive activities such as multiplying by two, collecting transfers on the subway, and throwing a piece of plastic back and forth for hours (otherwise known as ultimate). They’re a great way for her to pretend to be productive.

Jackie Ho

Deputy Editor In Chief, Media Manager

Jackie Ho was the Media Manager at The Reckoner. Aside from taking pretty pictures, she spends her spare time socializing, trying to do homework (keyword: try), teaching math, listening to music, and eating chocolate chip cookies. She can usually be found riding the TTC, at the Toronto Zoo, at a dance class, in front of her laptop, or curled up on her bed with a book and her phone. One day, Jackie hopes to travel the world (especially Europe) and work in conservation or medicine.

Shela Qiu

Director of Print Development

Shela Qiu is the Director of Print Development at The Reckoner. She has an extremely loud laugh, which kind of sucks for everyone around her because she finds absolutely everything funny. Throughout the day, she likes to squeeze in time for things like cubing, fangirling over BTS, and practicing her ambidexterity by writing with her left hand.

Sophia Song

Outreach Manager

Sophia is the Outreach Manager at the Reckoner. She is well known for her extremely high pitched sneezes and for being almost impossibly gullible. Sophia has a different type of laugh for every situation. She is also infamous for starting stories but never finishing them.

But there's really only one thing you will ever need to know about her. Don't call her Sophie. Her friends call her Soapdish.

She was at the bus stop the other day, and
