Humans of Garneau: April 2022

“What’s something about you that people would be most surprised to know?”
“I think people would be really surprised to know that my parents were born in Brazil.”
“Wow, that’s so cool! Have you ever been there?”
“Yeah I have, many times actually. The most recent time was in 2019.”
“It seems like such a cool place! What’s your favourite thing about Brazil?”
“I don’t know, there’s a lot. But probably that it’s really warm in the winter. I really wanted to go this year, but all our plans got ruined because of COVID.”

“Who is the most influential person in your life?”
“I’d say that my parents are the most influential.”
“Yeah, agreed.”
“I guess it’s because, like, they teach us what’s right and what’s wrong. And they shaped us to be who we are today.”

“Where do you see yourself in 10 years?”
“10 years. Wow. how would I know!?

Humans of Garneau: October 2021

“What was the happiest moment of your life?”
“It definitely had to be when my family and I immigrated to Canada. Before, life in Jordan wasn’t easy. My family was living in a desert camp, and we were too poor to afford to live in the city. It was really hard back then, but luckily we moved here to Canada. It’s for sure a lot better than my life before, and I am grateful for that.”
“Who are the most important people in your life?”
“It’s hard for me to name a specific person in my life who is important to me, but for sure I would say my family. Friends come and go, and personally, for me, my family is the most important thing in this world. I could live without seeing my friends again, but I can’t say the same for my mother, father, sister, and brother.”
“What do you see yourself doing in the next 10 years?”
“In the next ten years, I see myself finishing school and going to university to study what I am passionate about. I’ve always wanted to be a dentist my entire life, so hopefully, in ten years I get to start my own clinic and run it all by myself.”

“I like to sing and play guitar. I had a friend back in Pakistan, about 2 years ago, who played guitar. He didn’t really sing, but we sang and played guitar together. This is my first year in Canada and we keep in touch with Skype.”

“I liked playing rugby. Most of my friends now are from rugby. I played for the school team, and we all decided to join the Toronto Buccaneers.”
“Do you still play?”
“No, not anymore. I broke my collarbone in Grade 10 so I can’t play rugby.”

“What’s your favourite thing about being friends?”
“It’s nice to be able to share things with each other, and give each other advice. And if I ever need her, I know she’s there for me.”

“What do you want to be or what do you want to do?”
“I want to be a paramedic and go to college or university. Or a policeman. I’m still at a point where I don’t know what I want to do with my life. Both fields are interesting, and they help a lot of people. I didn’t want to go into the police force, but I did an internship with them and I understood they were just everyday, outgoing, friendly people.”
