This Wednesday 20 November marked the end of MGCI’s annual ball hockey tournament. Every fall, it has been a Garneau tradition to have this tournament, where students have the opportunity to show off their hockey skills, all with a little friendly competition. This tournament lasted three days, where the top three teams faced off in the last day.

The winning team got to have a picture with the large golden trophy. The first and second place teams received individual medals as well. Each player paid $5 to sign up for the tournament, with the money going towards a pizza dinner for the first day and the medals. Once all teams had signed up, all they needed were their own hockey sticks. This year, there were five teams competing in the tournament: The All-Stars, MGCI Young Stars, The Eulers, Champions, and The Goon Squad. The three teams that competed on the third day for the finals were The Goon Squad, The Eulers, and Champions. After an exciting and close match, Champions defeated The Goon Squad 4 to 3 in the finals match.

This year’s tournament was successfully organized by athletic convener Michelle Nyamekye, with the supervision of hockey fanatic Mr. van Bemmel, and help from SAC. Mr. Fradelos and Mr. Graham acted as referees in the tournament, maintaining the order of the game and ensuring the safety of players.

Stay tuned for the next annual ball hockey tournament. If you are a hockey enthusiast looking to win, or if you want some practice, be sure to take part in Garneau’s tradition next year.
