On 22 April, it was announced that Kasra Koushan, currently Manager of the Life board, will lead The Reckoner of Marc Garneau CI in the 2013-2014 school year as Editor-in-Chief (EIC) of the Third Guard.

The announcement was met with cheers and applause at a shortened full staff meeting. Kasra was among the few members of The Reckoner’s first guard, and has served as a prolific writer and editor since then. Kasra’s term will succeed two years of leadership under current EIC and co-founder Mahan Nekoui.

The Editor-in-Chief of The Reckoner is elected by a secret ballot of all staff members. Following the voting, the EIC-elect is informed of the results and works with the current EIC to appoint the rest of the next year’s managerial board.

Joining Kasra on the executive section of the third guard’s masthead are:

  • Sabrina Bertsch as Deputy Editor-in-Chief and News Manager;
  • Vasili Manikas as Life Manager;
  • Alie Teachman as Editorial Manager;
  • Jackie Ho as Photography Manager;
  • Susie Liu as Director of Print Development;
  • Quincy Lam as Director of Web Development; and
  • Lily Song as Business Manager.

As per The Reckoner’s Manual of Style and Conduct, members of the executive board, in addition to their respective duties, are responsible for decisions regarding the operation of the organization and the integrity of the newspaper. A mentoring process between the second and third executive has begun. The appointments listed above will take effect at the end of the 2012-2013 school year.
