On Monday, 22 October, the school PA system began to play music three minutes before the start of the national anthem. For a limited time, Ms. Tharshan, a social science teacher at MGCI, is offering students the opportunity to request songs to be played each morning.
Each three minute long request will cost students 50 cents. The money that is raised will go towards BSAP students, who will start a business within the school. They are hoping to create a café that will sell morning coffee and snacks to the staff.
According to Ms. Tharshan, they hope to raise $100 through this fundraiser.
In the end, the money raised from the café will be given to local organizations, such as the Thorncliffe Neighbourhood Organization, and the Muslim Women’s Association.
In order to request songs, students can find Ms. Tharshan in Room 226, the social studies office.
