Where is it that the jolly man goes?
When the blazing sun sets,
And the cruel wind blows.

Who is it that the jolly man meets?
By the light of the moon,
Voice drowned in the breeze

What is it to force the jolly man to hide?
To cause tremors in the ground,
And bring tears to his eyes.

Why is it that the jolly man is gone?
He is driven from his home,
A place he never shall belong

When is it that the jolly man returns?
If ever he will,
Or if forever I shall yearn

How shall I know if the jolly man is safe,
in a place
where his tormentors can no longer chase
him.

We will be reunited, jolly man
so that I may meet with joy again.
