The Reckoner is the award-winning student newspaper of Marc Garneau Collegiate Institute. The organization is comprised entirely of dedicated student volunteers: some of the best writers, artists, photographers, designers, and developers of the school. In 2016, the organization was named Ontario’s Best High School Electronic Newspaper and Ontario’s Best High School Volunteer Newspaper by the Toronto Star. Jacqueline Huo is the Editor in Chief of The Reckoner. She’s developed some bad habits, most notably procrastinating on assignments by watching sitcoms and writing run-on sentences, especially when talking about her interests, including, but not limited to, Animal Crossing, the Simon Snow book series, and the musical Hamilton—which she’s been obsessed with since she first listened to the cast recording in middle school, back when she still had a blue streak in her hair and a decent sleep schedule that didn’t involve being awake after midnight or needing caffeine to function like a normal human being.

Editor-in-Chief

Sarah Ali

Sarah Ali is the Editorial Manager. She enjoys writing about rising technologies and social and human rights issues. She tends to write unnecessarily harsh criticisms of anything and everything. Sarah also loves to discuss different issues with her peers, which is a dangerous game to play considering how she cries in every argument. She can often be found aimlessly wandering the halls and walking in and out of random clubs, although she now mostly cries in the comfort of her own home. She wishes to someday have a cat that can soothe her incessant weeping.

Sarah Ali

Deputy Editor-in-Chief, Editorial Manager

Zarmeen Yaqoob

Zarmeen Yaqoob is the News Manager at The Reckoner. Some of her special talents include overthinking and making jokes that she thinks are hilarious (though some may disagree). Even though she has taken on way more responsibilities than she probably should, she still has masterfully perfected the art of procrastination. When she is not busy overcomplicating everything, she can be found obsessing over a book, hanging out with friends, or stressing over nothing; sometimes all three at the same time. In any other circumstances, she would have loved to meet you in the school hallways, but it’s kind of illegal right now so probably best not to.

Zarmeen Yaqoob

News Manager

Sumedh Dhanvanthry

Sumedh Dhanvanthry is the manager of the Life Board. He’s in Grade 11, and struggles to recall how he got here. He speculates that learning to drive will teach him to be more focused on the journey than the destination. One can find him engaged in some task or another, sometimes writing, sometimes unthinking. He often waits to take his turn. His life often takes weighty turns. You might run into him, or he’ll run into you. He contains multitudes, but he’s constantly cucumber-cool. You know him well now—that’s all there is to it.

Sumedh Dhanvanthry

Life Manager

Jessica Xiong is the Photography Manager for The Reckoner. She is a Grade 12 student who aspires to make the world a better place and to stop procrastinating (but she always leaves that for another day). She enjoys playing the violin, taking photos, listening to music, and playing with her two cats. In the rare opportunity of something called “Free Time,” she can be found madly trying to catch up on TV shows and Webtoons while eating junk food, spamming her friends online, and taking long naps.

Jessica Xiong

Photography Manager

Lauren Liu is the Illustrations Manager at The Reckoner. When she is not busy with schoolwork and extracurricular activities, she can be found reading a good novel, eating yummy food, or watching Netflix. She believes that art is one of the many powerful mediums that can be used for de-stressing while self-expressing as well as for bringing a community together. If you ever see her on a walk outside in her neighbourhood, you can find her contemplating about life and how the world works.

Lauren Liu

Illustrations Manager

Cynthia Wang

Cynthia Wang is the Director of Web Development of The Reckoner. Since the beginning of quarantine, she's pretty much spent her entire life playing video games. During the rare times she decides to be productive, she is probably making tiny study notes, jamming to music while reading boring English literature, squinting at math formulas with Twitch streams on in the background, or crying in a corner over the (at the time of writing this biography) broken state of thereckoner.ca. Although she will assert dominance on you if necessary, you can usually win her over with cheesecake.

Cynthia Wang

Director of Web Development

He is the Director of Print Development. He attends Marc Garneau Collegiate Institute, and is also a part of The Reckoner. He has hobbies. Sometimes, he browses internet websites and other such things. Other times, he will do the occasional activity or hear a song. He is just like you. He works hard, enjoys things, and pumps blood from his heart around his body roughly 115,200 times per day. His favourite animal is the frog and he is in Grade 11.

Jeffrey Cheung

Director of Print Development

Allyson Wu

Allyson Wu is a Grade 10 student at MGCI and the head of the Outreach Board at The Reckoner. During her free time, she can usually be found listening to music on Spotify, drawing on her phone, or curled up with a book. Her current aspirations include becoming more fluent in Mandarin, improving her messy handwriting, and trying to increase her Among Us win rate. Feel free to reach out to her anytime, even if it's just to say hi - she loves making friends!

Allyson Wu

Outreach Manager

Aadila is a member of the Web Board at The Reckoner. Some of her talents include: pulling all-nighters without coffee, doing handstands against the wall, and spelling antidisestablishmentarianism backwards. This is not an exhaustive list.

Aadila Ali Sabry

Abbinaya Parakaran

Abbinaya Parakaran is a writer for The Reckoner's Life Board. She is a passionate reader and writer. She's also an amazing procrastinator. In her free time, she loves to eat snacks and binge watch TV shows.

Abbinaya Parakaran

Ajita Kanthathasan

Ajita Kanthathasan is an illustrator for The Reckoner. As a restless and disordered gallivanter, she finds her interests and passions change by the day. She enjoys drawing inspiration from unorthodox things; writing a colour, illustrating a song, creating movie-like animations in her head after witnessing a split second scene of a TV show. Her mind is a funky void, but she finds the funk is worth it when creative ideas emerge from it.

Ajita Kanthathasan

Akil Huang

Akil Huang is a member of The Reckoner's Editorial Board. He heads the MGCI Debate Club and works tirelessly to make sure that everyone knows it. He can be found playing the Kalimba, buying clothes, or talking about his Kindle. Message Akil to discuss fashion and politics.

Akil Huang

Akshaya Varakunan

Akshaya Varakunan is a Life Board writer and Illustrations Board artist, but also identifies as a meme creator, bubble tea addict, and professional procrastinator. In fact, as you’re reading this, there’s a very high chance she’s stressing over an assignment but procrastinating it anyway. She tried to procrastinate writing this, too, but she found herself writing this the day that it’s due. While she occasionally forgets a few things—sleeping before 4 am, starting her homework early, and responding to messages within a week—one thing she never forgets to do is bringing her best efforts to The Reckoner.

Akshaya Varakunan

Allan Li

Allan Li is currently a Grade 10 student at MGCI. As an aspiring bubble tea connoisseur, Allan enjoys biking around his neighbourhood in hopes of searching for the best places to sit down and order tea. He also enjoys playing the piano- mostly pieces from the anime Your Lie In April, which he loves to rewatch every so often. Currently, Allan finds himself preoccupied at home trying to fix his sleep schedule all while finding the time to binge watch the Netflix shows he never got to finish. All in all, Allan is excited to be part of The Reckoner!

Allan Li

Alvin Young

Alvin Young is a member of the Life board and the Print board of the Reckoner. In his free time, enjoys tennis, table tennis, and cooking. He hopes to be funnier than the average grandpa, as well as wiser. He likes to daydream, and wonder about the future. If you ever want some advice, he'll be happy to offer some. It's up to you to assess how useful it is. His dream is to one day find his passion.

Alvin Young

Alviya Siddiqui

Alviya Siddiqui is a member of the Outreach Board at The Reckoner. Alviya is usually busy trying to keep up with the latest Netflix shows, though she is always within easy reach to obsess over fictional characters, rant about the homework she always, somehow, fails to complete, and discuss abstract concepts, such as career pathways. From academics and extracurriculars acting as Serotonin to family and friends acting as Dopamine, together these make up a perfect blend of balance in Alviya’s life.

Alviya Siddiqui

Amy Jia

Amy Jia is a writer and photographer for The Reckoner. She fills her schedule with a balanced combination of food, procrastination, internet, laughter, music, and books. Amy can typically be found rooting through the kitchen for snacks, browsing through her phone, getting too emotionally attached to music, or binge watching photography channels on youtube. Many things make her happy, some of which include bubble tea, dogs, and making new friends.

Amy Jia

Angela Xu

Angela Xu is a Grade 10 photographer for the Reckoner. As the professional procrastinator that she is, she started writing this the night before it was due. She enjoys many activities including watching netflix, playing soccer, and taking naps, all of which she did while putting off writing this bio.

Angela Xu

Anirudh Goel

Anirudh Goel is a Grade 11 writer for The Reckoner’s Significant Digits board. His day usually starts off with a missed workout session substituted with an additional hour of sleep. He loves to travel the world and try out new experiences all while listening to either English or Bollywood music. He can often be seen fixing his hairstyle or turning on comedian mode for his friends. He tries to live in the moment so be sure to be around him for a fun time. Feel free to hit him up on Instagram where even KSI follows him!! @_anirudhgoel

Anirudh Goel

Anne Liu

Anne is a Grade 9 writer for the Editorial and News board. She enjoys writing, listening to music, and challenging herself. On the rare occasion she isn’t busy, you can find her obsessing over a book, talking to friends or family, or trying to learn something new. She takes pleasure in planning out everything and loves the mere feeling of having her life in place, whether it’s true or not.

Anne Liu

Anthony Chen

Anthony Chen is a Grade 10 developer for The Reckoner’s Web and App Development Board. In his spare time he enjoys reading xkcd, coding, and gaming. Anthony Chen

Bill Yan

Bill Yan is a member of both the photography and print board at the Reckoner. He is a curious student who loves doing math, playing the piano, taking pictures, designing, and exercising. During the quarantine, Bill has been exceptionally bored and he is excited to be a member of the Tenth guard. Although Bill may be busy taking naps, he is always available to discuss, or just chat with.

Bill Yan

Brasen Xu

Having been somehow accepted onto The Reckoner, Brasen Xu is now a writer for the Life board. In his limited free time, Brasen mindlessly watches YouTube videos. Brasen also enjoys doing DMOJ problems (AKA banging his head against a brick wall). His other hobbies include reading web novels and playing guitar. Brasen’s favourite fruit is the tangerine, and his favourite music is Mongolian throat singing. If he could be any country, Brasen would probably be Latvia, a country with 12,000 rivers and 3,000 small lakes. If you spot him in the hallway, he is probably sleepwalking.

Brasen Xu

Brian Li

Brian is a 9th grader at Marc Garneau CI. He previously attended Parkland Public school before high school. He is a writer for the News board at the Reckoner.

Brian Li

Brian Yan

Brian Yan is a Grade 10 developer for The Reckoner’s Web and App Development board. In his spare time, he enjoys competitive programming, solving math problems, and playing basketball. He enjoys creating modifications and programs to increase the amount of features for certain applications.

Brian Yan

Caroline Cheng

Caroline Cheng is a Grade 9 member of the News Board and Print Development Board at The Reckoner. In her free time, she loves reading, watching YouTube, and playing badminton. She makes it through high school by enjoying the little things in life, like drinking bubble tea and listening to Spotify while working. Caroline prefers talking with friends to doing homework, and procrastination is a close friend of hers.

Caroline Cheng

Carrie Jiang

Carrie Jiang is a member of the Outreach Board of The Reckoner. She’s extremely ambitious (too ambitious for her own good) and wants to join literally every single club. However, she also likes to watch an unhealthy amount of Netflix. This may seem like Carrie has immaculate time management skills, but in reality, she doesn’t, which is what eventually drives her into an evil hole of procrastination dug by herself. On a happier note, Carrie loves to play the piano, debate, and cook (burning the kitchen down). She has tried almost every sport, but can’t guarantee she’s good at them.

Carrie Jiang

Chen Peng

Chen Peng is a Grade 11 programmer for The Reckoner’s Web and App Development board. Although it may be strenuous to comprehend from the look of his profile page, Chen enjoys playing sports and going out with his friends. The quarantine has not been kind to him so he plans to start shaving off the bulk once he manages to pass one of Ms. Hermanovsky’s biology examinations. Thus to our dismay, one may conclude he will not be hitting the weights any time soon.

Chen Peng

Colleen Chang

Colleen Chang is a member of the Illustrations board on The Reckoner. She spends most of her spare time listening to music, chatting with friends on her socials, and thinking about drawing (more so than actually drawing). If she’s not in her room taking amateur photos of the weird lighting her window makes, she’s probably finally taking a walk after spending most of the past 6 months in the same room. Colleen considers herself a lover of all things creative and enjoys capturing bits of her life with your go-to pencil and paper.

Colleen Chang

Conner Lee

Conner’s a shut in who barely left his house for the past nine months due to COVID-19, which works out pretty nicely because of his extreme distaste for sunlight and exercise. He should probably be writing about his quirks and hobbies in this section of the bio but does anyone actually read this thing?

Conner Lee

Daniel Neagu

Daniel is a senior writer for Life and Editorial at The Reckoner. He enjoys rap music and can be found nodding along to Kanye West. Overall he's pretty Kanye fresh. His hobbies include tax evasion, world domination and eventually beating Minecraft. During his time at Garneau he's successfully mastered the art of missing the 925 bus home, and then the next one after that. Dmoney ultimately hopes that one day the pandemic will end and the hotdog stand will come back. Until then, he wishes you Kanye's best.

Daniel Neagu

Derek Chen

Derek Chen is part of the TOPS program at Marc Garneau Collegiate Institute. He enjoys writing and is part of the Editorial Board at The Reckoner. His other passions include fencing, reading, and playing the violin. Being in The Reckoner and being able to connect with people who share his passions is an experience in which he truly values.

Derek Chen

Edward Yang

Edward Yang was born at a very young age. His childhood was spent in Mississauga, but he moved to Markham right before he started Grade 4. Edward is currently in Grade 9, and enjoys fencing, reading about the latest science news, and talking to his friends on Discord.

Edward Yang

Elizabeth Wei is a Grade 9 student who somehow made it into the tenth guard. She has many interests, such as speed reading webcomics and manga, bingeing anime, and eating. Oh, she also plays volleyball and used to do synchronized swimming for five years. With a creative mind and love for design, Elizabeth is a member of illustrations and print. If you need her, you will find her reading something on her phone, probably crying because she is an emotional mess.

Elizabeth Wei

Emily Lai

Emily Lai is a writer for the Life Board and an Illustrator of The Reckoner. In her spare time, she plays piano, reads classic novels, and makes a valiant attempt at learning foreign languages. In another life, she imagines herself living quietly in the countryside with an abundance of good tea, books, and plenty of trees to read under.

Emily Lai

Emily Ma

Emily is part of the Editorial Board and News Board of The Reckoner. She enjoys reading books (currently reading Trials of Apollo), skiing/snowboarding, and chilling with her friends. Emily can be found screaming the lyrics to Hamilton, trying to control leaf tornadoes, and getting lost in the halls. Something she should stop doing is procrastinating so much (but I guess I could do that tomorrow…).

Emily Ma

Enoch He

Enoch He is a sophomore in the Web and App Development Board of The Reckoner. He is constantly battling procrastination every hour of the day, in high hopes of being productive. When Enoch is not worrying about his grades, he is either wondering what he will be eating for his next meal or socializing with his friends.

Enoch He

Evelyn is a photographer and news writer at The Reckoner. Her notable talents include starting assignments at 12 am and sleeping through all of her alarms. Evelyn is also proud to announce that she has traded her bubble tea addiction for a Chipotle obsession. She aspires to one day be 5’3 and achieve a first grade level of fluency in Mandarin.

Evelyn Jiang

Fatima Gulab is an artist for the Life Board. She spends her time grieving Achilles and Patroclus and wondering what Sanrio character she is most like (probably cinnamonroll). Convincing her friends to listen to The Smiths is one of her hardest struggles but she is able to find middle ground with TWICE. Unlike most people, Fatima has seen two pretty best friends.

Fatima Gulab

Fatima Sharipova is a Life Writer for The Reckoner. Recently, she’s been enjoying falling asleep in her online classes and waking up completely lost. Time management for her is just a work in progress. She’s also made a hobby of handing her assignments in late enough for Google Classroom to congratulate her with a “Phew, just in time!” message.

Fatima Sharipova

Flora Chen is a member of the Life board at The Reckoner. She is currently attending Grade 10 at Marc Garneau Collegiate Institute. During her free time, she enjoys reading, baking, and rewatching Brooklyn 99. Her achievements include being able to do three non-consecutive pushups, knowing how to spell the word "sincerely", and making it through the entire Shrek 2 movie without weeping. Flora is, quite ironically, probably allergic to flowers.

Flora Chen

Hateem Fatima is a writer for the life board, as well as a member for the print board. When she isn’t cracking bad dad jokes with her friends, she’s most likely raging on Among Us. (Which isn’t a pretty sight to see, but she firmly believes that pink is ALWAYS sus!) Don’t worry though; she’s pretty friendly too, so if you see her around, feel free to say hi!

Hateem Fatima

Helen is a photographer who’s very amazed she somehow got accepted into the media board at The Reckoner. She’s currently in a bit of a Marvel Cinematic Universe (stan Loki) and BBC Sherlock (Sherlock is adorable) phase, but most think she’ll eventually get over it. She also enjoys Hamilton, especially the animatics. Contrary to popular belief, she does do work, albeit with a lot of procrastination, and is occasionally even good at it. She wishes to express the world through her photos, and is hopeful in her ability to do so.

Helen Lin

Helen Sun is an Illustrator at The Reckoner. She loves the colour yellow, bridge, astronomy, podcasts, pop art, and book prose. She can be found fooling around with the motion blur functions in her art program instead of actually working on the piece. Her current concern: everyone around her has god-like handwriting and she desperately wants in.

Helen Sun

Howard Ou is a Grade 11 Editorial writer for the Reckoner. He enjoys playing badminton, which he has been playing for over 5 years, reading science fiction novels, and computer programming. In his free time, Howard can almost always be found playing diep.io.

Howard Ou

India writes for both the Life and Editorial boards at The Reckoner. She is a writer who writes what she reckons and a reckoner who reckons herself a writer. When bored, India likes to walk around town. She also enjoys looking at things, being with people, astral travelling, and the cemetery.

India Das-Brown

Iris is a writer for the News and Significant Digits Board as well as a member in Outreach. You can often find her procrastinating throughout the day and promoting her own cult to anyone and everyone. At night, she avoids sleep at all costs, spending her time watching anime and doing homework that is probably due within minutes. When talking to people, you may notice that she wiggles her arms frequently, a defence mechanism that originates from mild social awkwardness.

Iris Ma

Javeria Sajid is a writer for the Life Board at The Reckoner. She’s addicted to reading and you can never not find her with her nose in a book. When she’s not reading, she’s either sleeping or eating. She also enjoys making pottery, baking, embroidery, and playing Mario Kart. She loves creative writing because of the way she can put her voice into her piece, weave intricate details into her work, build emotion, and create a specific atmosphere just from a few clicks on her keyboard.

Javeria Sajid

Jefferson Chen is a writer for the Editorial Board at The Reckoner. Some of his favorite hobbies include playing the piano, playing video games...oh, and playing with figures within his own imagination. Aside from his usual commitment to school, he serves as the Deputy Squadron Warrant Officer at 110 Squadron of the Royal Canadian Air Cadets. Unfortunately, he lives with some individuals that enjoy making him do things he doesn't like...such as math, and physics, and chemistry...gross.

Jefferson Chen

Julia Shen is a member of the Illustrations and Print Development boards. She enjoys drawing (with Crayola Twistables), swimming, and eating apples. If she’s not listening to music or sleeping past her bus stop, then she’s probably procrastinating while munching on Asian snacks. She’s absolutely clueless about what she wants to do in the future, but she hopes that working on her life-long goal of becoming a better person is okay for now. She’s eternally grateful to her family and friends ‘cause they always brighten up her day, and she hopes to be able to do the same for them.

Julia Shen

Justin Wei does photography as a hobby. Some of his other hobbies include editing those photos, and playing the guitar, the classical guitar. So don’t beg him to strum random chords or sing a song. He is very quirky and much, unlike others. Justin likes to spend time by himself, immersing himself into his mind - thinking… He has a love-hate relationship with technology. ‘It would be very difficult to do anything without technology’. But he also says that tech is a constant distraction. Education and sleep are his priorities, but he also wishes for a good social life.

Justin Wei

Kelly Wang is a writer for The Reckoner’s Life Board. She enjoys cooking and baking, but especially, the part after, when she gets to eat. One of her talents is being able to binge TV shows at incredible speeds; currently, she is on a One Piece binge. In the future, she hopes to travel to Europe and figure out what she actually wants to do in life. She loves going out, whether that is getting bubble tea or going thrift shopping, she enjoys every second. She finds school passable, but would much rather be at home, cuddling with her dog.

Kelly Wang

Kevin Wang is a writer for the Significant Digits Column, where he reports on numbers abstractions world events weekly. He was born at a young age in a third-person country, which partially explains why he’s writing like this. (As a bonus, it makes him sound very official.) He spends his unfree time fighting corona beer virus by drinking water and tapioca instead, writing on his blog Definitely Integrals, and plotting to free Marc Garneau from the display case outside the office. If he had more time he would have written a shorter bio.

Kevin Wang

Linda Cai

Linda is a member of the outreach board. She enjoys binge-watching anime and silly videos when she needs to get things done. For example now while writing this bio. She is also able to survive up to 18 hours with no sleep or coffee, but that can ends up with her sleeping for another 14 hours straight.

Linda Cai

Lucy Qi is a 10 illustrator for the life and illustrations board at the Reckoner. She enjoys playing volleyball, drawing, playing piano, and karate. When she isn’t consumed in homework or eating cup noodles, you can find her making a new Spotify playlist or going on a long run in her neighborhood.

Lucy Qi

Maggie Pang

Maggie is a Grade 9 writer for the life and editorial boards. She likes to say that she has exactly two personality traits, sarcasm and awkwardness, although some of her acquaintances agree that her only personality trait is actually math. As such, she had trouble writing a long enough bio that would make her sound more interesting than she actually is. Her favourite book is 1984, which is just as pessimistic as she is. She also enjoys questioning life and cornering people in an effort to make them join band - brass is the best section, by the way.

Maggie Pang

Mahnoor is a member of the Print Development Board at The Reckoner. She spends every day like it's her birthday. Her spare time is spent binge-watching k-dramas and complaining about having no spare time *Insert rolling eye emoji*. Her all-time favorite hobby is sleeping, which she deprives herself due to her very unfortunate habit of procrastinating. Additionally, She has a huge obsession with collecting old coins and hopes to make a fortune out of them one day.

Mahnoor Irfan

Mahyar Yousefzadeh

Mahyar Yousefzadeh is a member of MGCI Reckoner's Web and Outreach boards. At school, he can be seen reading, scrolling through reading, or listening to music. He can also be seen outside of school in parks and on trails, admiring the nature around him. Occasionally, he also spends time sitting about with friends and family to binge tv-shows or to talk about local gossip.

Mahyar Yousefzadeh

Maryam Mobashir

Maryam Mobashir is a writer for The Reckoner's Editorial Board and an artist for the Life Board. She is usually sleep deprived because of her extremely busy schedule and her tendency to stay up late reading. In her free time, she can be found immersed in a book, watching an episode of a show, or staring blankly into space occupied with her thoughts, oblivious to the world around her.

Maryam Mobashir

Max Lu

Max Lu is an illustrator at The Reckoner. In his spare time, he enjoys listening to music, playing video games, and watching anime. He considers himself a hardworking person but can fall short on the intelligence aspect at times :^). Max can usually be found procrastinating on every assignment he gets until the stress eventually gets him out of his bed. In the future, he hopes to find an anime waifu to accompany him while he draws.

Max Lu

Mirando Zhao

Miranda Zhao is secretly an alien from outer space with a mission to invade the earth. Unfortunately, she got lost on her way to the earth-invading-machine, and somehow ended up as a Significant Digits writer for The Reckoner. When not plotting to take over the world, she enjoys screaming the lyrics to her favourite songs, procrastinating, and looking for enough money to fuel her bubble tea obsession.

Miranda Zhao

Paromita Roy

Richard Feynman truly believed that if you couldn’t explain something simply, you didn’t understand it. Well, the same rules apply when we talk about the complex theorem of “Paromita Roy”; she’s a Garneau fetus, who you can find on a multitude of club servers because of the common freshman symptom of over-committing to extracurriculars. Her hobbies include learning German, playing violin, and reading. As a child she was strangely attached to her red tricycle, in which she often hid the remote. This would allow for TVOkids to play 24/7. Flip to page 3 for a diagram of this method.

Paromita Roy

Paul Shur

Paul is an enthusiastic Grade 9 student and newly recruited writer for Reckoner’s Tenth Guard News column. Being stuck home is his kryptonite and he is determined to make life more productive this year by writing. A good thing to know about Paul is that he dislikes writing in the third person but will occasionally do so when forced to. He can be found socializing or somewhere looking out a window contemplating life.

Paul Shur

Prithika Piratheepan

Prithika is a member of the Print Board who truly enjoys graphic designing (though after designing the yearbook during the pandemic she constantly rethinks that). During her free time, and especially the winter, she enjoys reading while snuggled in bed with hot chocolate by her bedside. If you ever see her around you could probably find her silently crying due to the death of her favourite characters in books. She is always looking to meet new friends so stop by and talk to her about books or the NBA!

Prithika Piratheepan

Ray Hang

Ray is a lad who has no idea how to write stuff about himself. He can usually be found being bored and playing games. He is also an avid shipper, and likes to talk to people. Please talk to him, he needs entertainment desperately.

Ray Hang

Rena Liu

Richard Zhu

Richard Zhu is in Grade 11 and on the Web and App development board. He loves working with anything related to computers, both hardware and software. He tries his best to stay active through swimming, though usually he'd much rather be playing rhythm games instead. Currently, his goal is to teach his cat to pick up his pencil when he drops it - a feat among many that he hopes to accomplish using robotics in the future.

Richard Zhu

River Wei

River Wei is a writer for the Life and Editorial boards. A majority of their time is spent on social media or experiencing secret emotions—often both at the same time. A majority of their character has been built from the multiple failed assassination attempts against them. It’s recommended that you stay at least five feet away from them at any given time in case they start oozing toxic waste. Just to be safe.

River Wei

Saivenkat Jilla

Saivenkat Jilla is part of the Web and App Development Board of The Reckoner. He is a Grade 10 student in the TOPS program. His pastimes include gaming, reading, swimming and watching Youtube videos. He hopes to get a proper sleep schedule and improve his handwriting (Perhaps someday…). You can usually find him stressing over some aspect of his marks or running to his next class.

Saivenkat Jilla

Sarah Li

Sarah Li is an energetic tenner neck-deep in nonsense and daydreams. She's spent the past eight years of her life dedicating all of her time and energy to her novel series in-planning "CDP" and has essentially merged her soul with the thing. She landed herself as an illustrator and life board creator for the Reckoner by disguising the CDP as content. When she's not drafting up character arcs, rewriting physics, or finding increasingly creative ways to work around residual plotholes from Grade 2, she's... still thinking about the CDP. Seriously dude, get a hobby.

Sarah Li

Sophie Yang

Sophie Yang is an illustrator for the Reckoner‘s life board. She lives the hard life of a fangirl, which entails the unfortunate combination of a constant lack of sleep and being perpetually broke from buying songs and concert tickets. Her greatest aspirations include using her art to make a social and cultural impact, and of course—meeting Harry Styles.

Sophie Yang

Stephie Liu

Stephie Liu is an author for the News Board at the Reckoner. She is currently in Grade 10. Her hobbies include reading and getting depressed while pondering her existence. She enjoys sleeping just about anywhere, sketching, binge-reading at two in the morning, eating midnight snacks, and writing random short stories. You can usually find her stressing about her next test.

Stephie Liu

Sunyah Tehreen

Sunyah Tehreem is an editorial board writer at The Reckoner. She usually gets really absorbed in the moment while she's doing something she likes, so sorry if she doesn't reply to your texts right away. She loves reading, almost all sports, the outdoors, and debating her friends and family on almost anything. Her friends and family call her “stubborn,” but what she thinks they mean is opinionated. She hopes that she can write meaningfully for The Reckoner.

Sunyah Tehreen

Theodore Lam

Theodore Lam is a Grade 10 student at MGCI. His skills include procrastinating, spilling food, and losing his personal possessions. In his free time, he can be found reading Wikipedia articles, doing crossword puzzles, and looking for his personal possessions. He would tell you more about himself, but his home is currently being invaded by an army of rabid wallabies.

Tina Ma

Tina Ma is a writer for the Editorial Board at The Reckoner. She enjoys jumping rope, moving things around her room and calling it “cleaning", and looking through her friends’ Spotify playlists. She’s currently unable to wave at people who won’t wave back to her in the hallways since she’s attending virtual school, though she’s happy to report that her reply game has improved since Grade 10. In her spare time, she can be found editing videos for her new YouTube channel. She hopes that one day she’ll become internet famous and rich enough to buy a Maserati.

Urooba Shaikh is a Grade 12 student at MGCI and a writer for the news and editorial boards at The Reckoner. She can usually be found scrambling to finish the homework she should have done earlier. In her spare time she likes to do many things that she is not good at, such as playing sports, singing, painting, and cooking. The three things she loves most in the world are food, books, and sleep, but she usually doesn’t get enough of any of them. She hopes to one day write something that will make the world a better place.
