In 2016, the organization was named Ontario’s Best High School Electronic Newspaper and Ontario’s Best High School Volunteer Newspaper by the Toronto Star. Bridget Huh
EIC
×
Bridget Huh
Bridget Huh is the Editor-in-Chief of The Reckoner. She spends an alarming amount of time writing poetry that is, according to her critics, "sexually frustrated". She takes 30 grams of peanut M&Ms daily (prescribed by herself) to treat her moderately severe depression. If she were to describe herself with the lyrics of one song, that song would be "Handsome Devil" by The Smiths.

Adil Haider
Editorial Manager
×
Adil Haider
Adil Haider is the Editorial Manager for The Reckoner, and he’s just as surprised as you are. His greatest achievements include starting the Significant Digits column and taking on too much administrative responsibility. Although he’s very busy trying to keep his half dozen clubs functioning, Adil is always available to discuss, argue, or cry with, though beware, about 50% of his conversations are set ups to puns. He is easily identifiable in the halls by his massive headphones, massive eyebags, and constant stream of opinions. His great passions in life are tea, research, and the sound of his own voice.

Andrew Li
Director of Print Development
×
Andrew Li
Andrew Zou Li is the Director of Print Development at The Reckoner. He started his journey in graphic design and formatting through complex surreal photo manipulation and has now progressed to the abstract art of drawing small rectangles on a larger newspaper rectangle. Andrew describes this growth as "revolutionary and inspirational", stimulated by the profound influnece of elementary geometry and not a lack of time to create anything more sophisticated. Although he occasionally misses the days where he could draw his imagination for hours on end, Andrew would much rather design a paradise where the imagination of the entire newspaper staff can flourish.

Jacqueline Huo
News Manager
×
Jacqueline Huo
Jacqueline Huo is the News Manager of The Reckoner. She doesn’t know the meaning of the words “free time” but if she had any, she would spend it binge-watching The Office and browsing through dog memes on Instagram. She spends a large part of her day waiting for the bus, which never seems to come on time. In class, she can be found frantically finishing her homework as the teacher collects, cramming for her test the next period, or catching up on sleep. Jacqueline has an extensive hoodie collection, and a mild obsession with the band Family of Things.

Jennifer Yu
Outreach Manager
×
Jennifer Yu
Jennifer is the Outreach Manager on The Reckoner. A lover of all things Disney, she often finds herself re-watching childhood Disney movies and shows. In her free time, she loves to paint with her favourite songs or shows playing in the background for inspiration.

×
Jim Wu
Jim Wu is the Director of Web and App Development.

Justin Ye
Deputy Editor-in-Chief, Photography Manager
×
Justin Ye
Justin is the Reckoner’s Deputy Editor in Chief and Photography Manager. Although he wishes he was asleep right now, Justin is probably somewhere studying for his test next period or working on a not-nearly-enough-done project. When he’s not busy working (procrastinating), Justin is an avid follower of the NBA and enjoys cross country running, swimming, and Ultimate Frisbee himself. He also loves to cook, and is especially fond of noodles and potatoes. Justin struggles with writer’s block: while he is comfortable developing elaborate introductions for his work, he never knows how to properly end a paragraph.

Lauren Liu
Illustrations Manager
×
Lauren Liu
Lauren Liu is the Illustrations Manager at the Reckoner. In her spare time, she enjoys listening to music, playing basketball, and playing the French horn. She is a hardworking person at heart but she can also be a procrastinator at times. Besides school work and extracurricular activities, she can be found reading a good novel, eating yummy food, or watching many movies and television shows on Netflix. In the future, she hopes to travel more often and learn more from experiences that are yet to come.

Roger Li
Life Manager
×
Roger Li
Roger likes adding risky creative flairs to everything he does: odd assignments, pictures of squirrels riding dogs, and flavoured text messages (which happen way too often). Roger tends to take on more than he can handle. Once, he was tasked with writing a biography in a hundred words. Roger got attached to his ideas - a dating profile, an irrelevant story, etc - and a hundred words became irrevocably insufficient. Another instance is when he agreed to be Life Board manager. Constantly overwhelmed, he deems everything to be a tomorrow problem. If you’re ever asked for texting advice, beware of second-hand anxiety.

Adeena Ali
×
Adeena Ali
Adeena Ali is a Grade 12 writer for the Life Board. You’ll find her heavily stressing from dreadful deadlines or ecstatic from finally finishing an assignment after spending an all-nighter. But academics aren’t everything to her, mind-blowing facts, cool advertisements and the newest out-of-this-world fantastical novel are just some of the things that she greatly enjoys.

Aimee Li
×
Aimee Li
Aimee Li, a BMW driver since day one, is a writer for the Life board on The Reckoner. She enjoys leeching off of her friend’s Spotify premium, laughing too hard at her own jokes, and not knowing when to shut up. If she’s not binge-listening to murder podcasts then she’s probably off somewhere making TikToks. She WILL complain about absolutely anything to absolutely anyone, so if you see her in the hallway, walk away as fast as you can. She would rather be caught dead than with a completed homework assignment in her hand.

Ajita Kanthathasan
×
Ajita Kanthathasan
Ajita Kanthathasan is a member of Garneau’s Illustrations board. She honestly has no idea what she is or will be doing in life, but finds that working hard at what she’s passionate about works pretty well for now. She tends to be all over the place, never doing less than three tasks at once. She’s introverted and a tad bit shy, but once you get to know her you won’t know how to get rid of her. Her friends and family mean the world to her, and she could not imagine surviving without their love and laughter.

Akil Miki Huang
×
Akil Miki Huang
Akil Huang is a member of the Reckoner's Editorial Board. He writes under the Fashion Column in a collaborative effort with the Garneau Fashion Club, an emerging collective dedicated to providing the most refined opinions on current fashion news. You will often find him scouring the web to uncover tasteful style tips or researching up-and-coming brands to feature in his Fashion Club PowerPoints. If you see him in the halls or in lectures, don’t be afraid to start a discussion, or ask him about his knit collection!

Akshaya Varakunan
×
Akshaya Varakunan
Akshaya is a writer for the Life board at the Reckoner, but she uses memes as her prime form of communication. She can usually be seen in her grey hoodie, inhaling bubble tea, and dabbing - which, by the way, looks just as strange as it sounds. When attempting to approach her, keep in mind that she’s either half-asleep or high on taro milk tea. In any case, as you can probably tell, she’d appreciate some help in getting her life together. If she had her life together, this biography would be far more interesting.

Allan Li
×
Allan Li
Allan Li is a Grade 9 photographer for The Reckoner. Although his photography skills are a work-in-progress, he loves shooting photos whenever he can. Outside of school, Allan enjoys drinking bubble tea while binge watching Hell’s Kitchen, especially when Gordan Ramsay gets mad at the chefs (In fact, Gordan is his icon)! Aside from this, Allan is very determined to sharpen his skills and hopes he can contribute considerably to The Reckoner this year!

Allyson Wu
×
Allyson Wu
Allyson Wu is a member of the Outreach Board at the Reckoner. During her free time, she can usually be found listening to music on Spotify, binging Youtube, or curled up with a book. Her current aspirations include becoming more fluent in Mandarin, improving her messy handwriting, and figuring out how to finish all her homework while getting a socially acceptable amount of sleep(a truly challenging task). She also constantly has earbuds in, but if you see her, please say hi - she loves making friends!

Amanda Tian
×
Amanda Tian
Amanda Tian is a writer for the Life Board who made this bio at 1:29 a.m. two days after it was supposed to be submitted. She’s so sleep deprived that she’s starting to hear colours and will maybe update her bio at a later date (but not now because she wants to go to bed).

Amy Jia
×
Amy Jia
As a part of both the Life and Outreach boards, Amy Jia fills her already busy schedule with a balanced combination of food, procrastination, internet, laughter, and books. Although she loves to write, Amy often finds herself staring at a new document as empty as her storage for creative ideas. When she’s at home, Amy can typically be found rooting through the kitchen for snacks, or browsing through her phone in a never ending search for memes.

Amy Li
×
Amy Li
Amy is a writer for the News Board at the Reckoner. She enjoys daydreaming, listening to music, exploring, making puns and playing competitive croquet. She constantly experiments to find the optimal way to procrastinate but then wonders why all her work creeps up on her last minute. When nothing interesting is happening her head will slip into the clouds, but saying anything crazy or about ducks will quickly get her attention. She is also a top-secret FBI agent so if you ever need any information she will gladly assist you, just keep it lowkey, it’s top-secret after all.

Amy Long
×
Amy Long
Amy Long is a Life Board Artist for The Reckoner. She can typically be found rushing her projects last minute or drawing to distract herself from her responsibilities. She wrote her bio for The Reckoner the day before it was due which says a lot about her. Amy is in the grade with 2 other Amys, but you can differentiate her from the others easily because she’s infinitely more awkward to talk to.

Andrew Liang
×
Andrew Liang
Andrew is a middling student just trying to get by. When not working on some project or other (roughly half of which are "productive"), he can be found doing a host of things—playing guitar, listening to music, writing, or doing "contest math"—all of which he enjoys very much. Andrew Wu
×

Annie Xiong
×

Bahir Latif
×
Bahir Latif
Bahir Ali Latif is a member of the news board at The Reckoner. It is his first year at the school and he is a really passionate student. He loves playing soccer(who doesn't), ultimate frisbee and volleyball in his spare time and is enthusiastic about being a part of all the awesome clubs at the MGCI. I go by many names such as Billy, Billy Bartai, Billy Bobby Barti, Billy Booby Brown, or Barti B. Take your pick or create an entirely new one! Catherine Zheng
×
Catherine Zheng
Catherine is a significant digits columnist and a part of the print board. She likes resolving to her group members that she'll finally do a smaller part of the group project but always ends up doing most of it anyway. She also enjoys picking up centipedes and spiders but is deathly afraid of fruit flies. So no matter how tough and manly she may try to be, just remember the fruit flies.

Chen Peng
×
Cheng Peng
Chen Peng is a sportswriter for The Reckoner’s Sports Board. When he isn’t notoriously napping in class (out like a light), he can be seen avidly chatting with his peers on utterly extraneous subjects. Being the couch potato that he is, his favourite pastime is chilling on his phone while sitting on any comfortable surface. And although he loves watching sports games like basketball and football, his fear of moving a muscle has been limiting his athletic ambitions.

Colleen Chang
×

For the sixteenth year in a row, Conner’s goal is to finish his assignments on time and stop procras-

Cynthia is a tenner in the Life and Sig Dig boards. She is the living embodiment of confusion and panic. She also really likes cake. Unless you have cake.

Daniel Neagu
×
Daniel Neagu

At lunch, Daniel can be found often scolded by Jimmy the hot dog vendor because he forgot to order his spicy Italian sausage in advance. In his free time, he enjoys carrying the volleyball team, sleeping through his twenty-hour bus ride home, and waking up at the wrong stop. One word to describe Daniel with would most likely be an adjective, of which there are certainly some.

David Walji
×
David Walji
David is an Editorial writer for the Reckoner. He is a procrastinator at heart and cherishes the little sleep he gets. He can often be found sipping bubble tea while staring at his screen blankly, unsure about how to respond to his DMs or trying to understand memes too complex for his brain. Jessica Guo
×
Jessica Guo
Jessica Guo is a senior writer for the News Board on The Reckoner. winning arguments about the most trivial subjects. If you ever see him, don’t try to pronounce his last
name. Just don’t.

Kelly Wang
×
Kelly Wang
Kelly is a writer for the Lifeboard as well as an aspiring tone-deaf singer. When she’s not singing, she’s spitting fire bars. She colour coordinates her outfits with Silly Bandz because she’s still stuck in the early 2000s and you’ll often hear her randomly breakout in Chinese and Toronto slang (ironically of course) in an attempt to prove that shes’s actually great at it. When she is not pissing off her friends by saying anything along the lines of he a sweetermans, nize dat, and are u blem fam, she’s laughing at her own hilarious jokes because she’s so funny.

Larissa Long
×
Larissa Long
If you’re looking for Larissa Long, just follow the stream of tears coming out of a movie theatre and you’ve reached your destination. With her loud and obnoxious laugh, you’ll hear her far before you even see her. She’s just a child who happens to write for the Editorial board and more importantly, a master at pool. She likes using long words to make herself sound more adenophyllous, and of course, is a spelling champ. She can even spell long words like cammel! With her inability to wink and hoops longer than TTC wait times, Larissa truly never gets cold.

usually sleep deprived because of her extremely busy schedule and her
tendency to stay up late reading. In her free time, she can be found

into space occupied with her thoughts, oblivious to the world around
her."

Matthew Liu
×
Matthew Liu
Matthew is an artist in the Life Board. When he's not making bad jokes he's being one himself. He can often be seen in the halls wearing scrunchies and he always seems to leave his phone in the library. Matthew is also unbelievably stingy. He will come up with the worst ideas for saving money, like drinking bubble tea with a small straw to save the tapioca for next time. Matthew is horrendously outrageously unacceptably terribly bad at writing long long long long pieces, which is why he is using this sentence to fill up space. (echo) (echo) (echo)

Michael Li

In fact, he even mixes up punctuation in English; Other than programming, he also enjoys getting incredibly lucky on the Euclid contest, his TOPS Physics courses, and the popular game Greed Control on the website Art of Problem Solving. When he is not doing these things, he prefers to spend his free time mourning over the death of his English mark.

Miranda Zhao
Miranda Zhao is a news writer for the Reckoner. While stuck in traffic on the 925, she likes to stare out the window and pretend that she can make the other cars disappear. However, because she is an ordinary person, this trick never quite works. Like most ordinary people, she enjoys music, eating rice at breakfast, sleeping in, eating rice at lunch, not having homework (haha), eating more rice at dinner, and the sound of the rain on the rooftops at night. If you see her in the halls, she’s probably contemplating what she’ll eat for her next meal (hint: it’s rice)

Mohamed loves baking, reading, and playing with his feline baby. He loves learning new languages - in fact, he can currently speak five. And he continues to hone his ability to say "I can't speak your language" in pretty much every other language he encounters.
