On 12 December at lunch in the cafeteria, MGCI hosted its very first BeYou-tiful Show. It was organized by the Franq Girl Club, a section of Franq Girl Magazine. The club supports the idea that all girls are beautiful no matter their physical appearance. It also fights against the media portrayal of girls, negative self-talk, and the idea that there is only one type of beauty. The club and magazine’s goal is to change how the media represents and depicts girls, thus empowering girls.
The BeYou-tiful show’s purpose was to showcase each participant’s style and uniqueness on stage. There were a total of 16 participants. As each of them came on stage and posed, the audience were told her name, interests, and favorite fashion style. All of the participants were visibly excited and enjoyed their experience. The audience cheered on participants as they stepped out on the stage. The show was not only promoting the Franq Girl Club, but also the thought that everyone is beautiful when they are themselves.

Arshiya Bawajir, a participant of the show was supportive of the idea. She said, “I thought the event was a great idea. It gave us girls a chance to show case a little bit of ourselves to the school and feel confident about it.”
The founders of Franq Girl Magazine, Jessica Nicholson and Kristin Grimshaw, also came out to support the event.

Overall, the reaction towards the BeYou-tiful Show was quite positive. The President of Franq Girl Club, Selina McCallum said, “I think this is a great magazine that many girls should know about. Having the club allowed me to do that, and the show allowed me to bring it out to the whole school.”
